Polished Concrete

The highest level of low maintenance flooring

A Spot On Mechanically Polished Concrete floor is our most Premium Finish.

Polished Concrete floors are fast becoming the most popular and affordable alternative floor covering. In most cases this floor finish is cheaper than wood floorboards or tiles and is far superior in appearance and longevity. No need to worry about ugly grout lines or dinting and damaging timber. Concrete mixes now come in many different colours, in terms of the base colour and aggregate types and are available from many concrete suppliers such as Mentone Mix, Vic Mix, Hanson Image Crete and Holcim.

A Spot On Polished Concrete floor is not only visually impressive, it is also a very durable and hard wearing floor, that is extremely scratch resistant and perfect for pet owners also. The floor finish should last a lifetime with the right maintenance.

Our Mechanically Polished Concrete Floors are finished by a full 18 step Machine Polish, similar to such types of floors as “Husqvarna HiPERFLOOR ™” and “HTC Superfloor”, but we believe our system is more in depth and superior. This is a coating free system, with no topical sealers or epoxy type coatings, guaranteeing a perfectly polished floor.

Benefits of a Spot On Polished Concrete Floor:

  • Aesthetically appealing
  • Long life expectancy
  • Low maintenance
  • Easy to clean
  • Hygienic with no grout, fibers or wood lines to trap dust
  • Pet Friendly
  • Stain and Scratch Resistant
  • Personal friendly service

Polished concrete is available in a range of different exposures and gloss levels

Full Exposure

Full exposure is the hardest grind, taking off 5-10mm which offers the most amount of aggregate. This level of exposure ensures the flattest floor, with more chance to flatten out any imperfections made during the pouring process. This finish shows the decorative nature of the aggregate chosen to the maximum effect. This is also our personal favorite as it’s the most consistent floor.

Random Exposure

This exposure is becoming a popular choice and referred to a factory/shop/industrial type finish. The exposure offers different parts – some with full exposure aggregate and areas with less aggregate. Exposure levels are relative to the way the concrete has been laid and with this finish you can expect to see screed marks and any concrete layer imperfections. People often refer to this finish as having the most “character.” Clients that like to see the handmade or imperfect nature of concrete will like this finish.

Light Random

Light Random exposure is often referred to as a “salt and pepper” finish. This finish is where we grind the minimal amount of concrete off the surface to achieve a flat enough surface to polish. Concrete must have been laid almost perfectly for this finish and an experienced concreter is a must. This exposure is often susceptible to low spots, minor blemishes and screed marks. These defects make up a part of this finish and must be expected and accepted.

Surface Polish

A surface polish is a new type of finish where we don’t actually grind the surface as such. We use resin-based diamond products to smooth the surface and polish up from there. You can expect to see the very top of some rocks in places. The concrete must be laid perfectly and all trowel marks, water marks, colour variation and any imperfections from concrete placement will still be visible in the end product.

Warehouse Exposure

A Warehouse exposure finish is suitable to all types of existing concrete that was not necessarily poured to be polished such as renovated properties or older slabs. These concrete areas can be prone to staining, cracking or even stone dust that has been troweled into the floor. Existing damage from tiles floors or carpet edging can be patched and often blend into this type of finish.

Mechanically Polished Concrete is available in various gloss levels.

Spot On Polished Concrete can guide you to the right gloss level that suits your space and requirements. They include:

  • Ultra-high gloss – An almost mirror-like effect
  • High gloss – Our most popular and our personal favourite
  • Satin – A smooth and luxurious finish
  • Matt – Although classified as matt, as it is polished concrete, it will have a reflective shine still. May have a cloudy or powdery appearance

Note: A totally matt finish is only possible with a Grind and Seal Finish.
